Throughout his career, Nigel Coates has been known for his architecture, writings and exhibitions in addition to his work as a furniture and lighting designer. Coates is also a prolific designer of lighting and furniture particularly with Italian companies, with links to Alessi, Fratelli Boffi, Fornasetti and Slamp, and in the UK with SCP and Hitch Mylius.
Examples of his work are held in several museum collections including the Victoria & Albert Museum and FRAC, Orleans. Over the last two years Coates has created successful
limited edition pieces for New York gallerist Cristina Grajales. In 2011 Coates launched three lighting collections for Slamp. 2011 also saw the launch of the Domo collection for Poltronova.
2012 will see Coates’ Narrative Architecture published by Wiley, London, another solo exhibition with Cristina Grajales Gallery in New York and new collections launched at the Salone Internazionale del Mobile in Milan.
