Nigel Coates showcases experimental installation at Venice Biennale, 14 September – 23 November 2008
As part of the show “At Home in the Modern World” at this year’s Venice Architecture Biennale, designer Nigel Coates will be showing Hypnerotosphere, an installation that is literally a ‘living’ room. The installation includes three concise elements: a landscape of furniture pieces, a set of floating architectural models and surrounding these, a movie featuring two dancers projected onto a circular screen. These components are intended to mirror one another, and to construct a space that opens the link between our own bodies and the “bodies” that constitute the architecture that surrounds us. Nigel Coates has collaborated with celebrated movie director, John Maybury and Spanish contemporary dance choreographer, Rafael Bonachela on this work. It’s one not to be missed. The installation will be located at the end of the Corderie dell’Arsenale, the venue for director Aaron Betsky’s headline show.

| | Roger Zogolovitch launches his manifesto ‘Development as Art’
Chairman of Solidspace developers and leading architect, Zogolovitch summaries his philosophy and manifesto, saying:
"The housing industry needs to change. As the downturn continues to bite we can no longer expect poorly-designed homes to sell, merely because they fill a gap in the market. We take the long view. Our buildings will endure and become the heritage of the future. In fact, we are confident that our homes will gain and maintain their prices, despite these recessionary times.”

Bute supports exhibition of furniture by ECA students
As part of a range of Edinburgh International Festival events, Bute is proud to support ‘Bute@ECA’, an exhibition at the Edinburgh College of Art. Twelve Year 3 students in the Product Design Department undertook a project to design and manufacture upholstered seating, catered towards the high street market. Using fabrics personally selected from the Bute contemporary range, the brief specifically required them to design and manufacture a single seat that would accompany a two-seater sofa priced at £499. The exhibition is open to the public from 4-29 August.
